Melissa’s spiritual name given to her by Yogi Bhajan is Nirvair Kaur, the princess of compassion and understanding. Spiritual names are supposed to help guide you on your spiritual path; they tell you what you need to be focusing on in this lifetime in order to grow. Her reflections on this name and the lessons to be learned from it are that “for compassion to  arise there must be no past, forgive and forget, no one is your enemy, be merciful to all, even yourself”. Being kind, compassionate and forgiving to others is easy but to be gentle, loving and nonjudgmental towards one’s self is a challenge worth accepting.

Yogi Bhajan – The Aquarian Teacher

Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1968. Yogi Bhajan taught that, through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, your glandular and nervous systems are stimulated, and your capacity for creative potential is heightened. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life.
Yogi Bhajan was born Harbhajan Singh Puri in 1929 in India. His spiritual tutelage began at age of 7, and at 16 his teacher, Master Sant Hazara Singh, pronounced him Master of Kundalini Yoga. He received a Master’s Degree in economics from Punjab University. He then had a successful career serving as a Tax and Customs Officer in the Indian Government before he was invited to the West. In 1953 he married and has three children and 5 grandchildren. In his lifetime he published over 200 books and videos and he received a PhD in the Psychology of Communication in 1980.

Although he is recognized as a sage, healer, philosopher, business and religious teacher, Yogi Bhajan is primarily a spiritual teacher with a global constituency.
